Has anyone here been using their A8/S8 as their "daily driver" and put some large mileage on the car....most people I have seen have theirs as a second car, or they just don't drive a hell of a lot.....from what I've seen, the design is pretty bulletproof, and the car itself is a tank, so I don't see any reason I should have problems taking the car to 150,000 miles and beyond, but I'm curious to see if anyone in here has had any experience taking the A8 to it's limits.....I got my 1997 with 56,000 miles on it, and put about 35-40 thousand miles on a car each year, which means I should be passing the 150K barrier sometime in late 2003, early 2004......what are Audi's ratings for the engines lifespan?? curious to hear the reponses.

I just got rid of my 91 200q, had 235K miles on it, and it was as strong as when I bought it five years before. I've done my first oil change on my 97 (now has 49K miles), put Mobil 1 in it. You won't have any problems with compression over the life of your car if you do that.

What weight of Mobile 1 do you use in your A8? The manual calls for 5W-50, 10W-60 or something like that. Will the 15-50 Mobile 1 work year-around? I live in Denver- we can have a 10 degree day followed by a 70 degree day- must have a broad range oil. Thanks.

I use the red cap, 15W-50 in the summer, sometimes I use the green cap in the winter (5W-40?). If you look in the manual, it has the chart for the oil viscosity versus temperature. However, if you use Mobil 1, I'm sure 15W-50 is fine for all year. Not with Dino oil though....

... The 0w protects the motor on start-up on the coldest of days. Most motor wear occurs during start-up and this oil stays fluid to below -40 oF. The 40 protects the motor once it reaches normal operating temperature, on the hottest of days.

The only problem with 0w-40 is that it's a little hard to find in the U.S. (the bottle says European Formula). I get mine from a nearby Mobil distributer here in Pennsylvania. I believe it's also available from most Mercedes and Porsche dealers.

to see if anyone had taken the A8 to higher mileage than I have seen.....most A8s I've seen used have barely cracked the 50,000 mile barrier, let alone passing 100K and beyond........I know audis will pretty much go forever, as long as you take decent care of them, but just wondering if anyone has had the experience of taking the A8 to high mileage, and if so, what problems you've had doing......you europeans probably have done it more than we have on the other side of the pond, since we only got the car in 1997!!!!!

What oil filter do you use? Ican't find any aftermarket oil filter for a 97-01 Audi A8. I would like to use a Mobil 1 oil filter but, again, I can't find one to fit (if there is one). I guess I will have to go by the dealer and see how much they are.
