Help with MAF, seat occupied sensor
Took my 1998 A8 (with 125K miles) to shop to check check engine and air bag lights. The VAG codes came back as follows:
Check engine light was code 16486-Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too low P0102-35-00. The shop said the MAF sensor is bad and wanted a lot of money for the MAF sensor. I told them I will replace myself.
Can you tell me if the MAF sensor goes bad? Can I clean with any special fluids? What should I use? is it easy t spary on the wire (I assume this is a hot wire anemometer). Can it be other issue like O2 sensor? How to best troubleshoot?
The airbag light was code 00656-Seat Occupied Sensor; passenger side (G128) 32-10-Resistance too high - Intermitent. What do you think this can be?
BTW, while shop cleared the codes, the check engine light came back on. Intresting thing is that when this happens, the charcaters indicating P-N-D-1... for transmission position in the instrument cluster all turn on in negative color (letters are dark and the rest of dispaly is bright). I also get a kick in the car when this happend.

mine does the same thing in the cold ... below 20deg when she's not warmed up ....
I VAG'd it and comes up with the same MAF sensor code too. Kicking the ign. on and off solves the problem until she warms up. I guess a new MAF is in my future too

I have the same issue with Passenger Seat sensor. I just clear the code. It stays away until somebody sits in the passenger seat again. I'm not sure if the passenger side airbag would deploy if needed in an accident while the light it on, but I guess it would not. I have been told that the sensor is glued to the seat leather and falls off or something over time, only speculation though.

yep, Ross Tech code = implausable reading? A quick off/on with the key clears it, only when cold
I've used the CRC air mass cleaner and didn't solve the problem. It only does it about a mile or two in when I don't let it warm up and it's Really cold out. Just crusing too (not beating on it). Once she warms up a little, never does it again. Doesn't bother me too much, but I bet it needs a new MAF.
