Default Help Please - Longish plea describing conditions...Gabor please if you would read this

Of the 3 S8s within a 2 mile radius here, 2 exhibit this noise. It is a knocking that seems to be tranny related as it only occurs for 30 - 45 seconds, on a cold start, in gear (particularly R) and may be exacerbated by incline. If removed from gear the noise disappears. I can sit at idle with the car in gear but not having moved it at all and the noise will not appear.

So, cold start, put car in R and back out of garage down a slightly inclined driveway, step on the brakes and hold the car stationary and a knock, knock, knock sound occurs and goes away. Roll a little more, stop and knock, knock, knock. This happens on mine and Jim's but not Olu's. Recent tranny filter/flush on all cars. Wrench had mine for a few days and verified fluid levels (diff and tranny) but since the noise is so fleeting he could not pinpoint the source.

Would some of you be willing to recreate the conditions I described and let me know if you do/do not have this and more/most important if you have any idea what it might be.

Thanks in advance, Mark

Default I go through that scenario every day and I've never heard a knocking.....

But I'll pay more attention for a few days in case it's something I've been missing.

Thanks - On the stop you have to hold it for a few seconds...5 - 10 maybe.

Default Mine and Jim's are '03, Olu is '02 - mind you...

I don't want anybody to have this noise really but there is some comfort that others do have it in that it may be "normal" or at least not abnormal.

Mark, no knocking here (02 S8); no helpful suggestions.
