Default Help!!! Tranny went into limp mode tonight. This happened once before and I restarted the car

and it fixed it. This time, I was coasting a bit forward before I shifted into reverse and the error mode flipped on! I turned the car off and restarted and the tranny is still in limp mode. Please help!

I did some research on the limp mode, but could the new coding have affected the tranny adversely?

Default Try disconnecting the battery for + 15 mins.

That sould reset the tranny learning. Hope that helps...

Not sure about the coding, but it might be good to collect data on evtl. problems after recode.

Default PS:

Are the gear indicators on the dash on or off?

If you have acces to a VAG-COM, what's the fault code?

Will the VAG pull all the codes and clear them? I will have to ask my friend for his VAG help again

All of the gear indicators are highlighted...I assume it is in "limp mode" where it locks 3rd or 4th

Default If the gear indicators on the dash work

it can be interrogated, if not the J217 is not functioning at all, i.e. it cannot be interrogated via VAG-COM.

But as said, taking the power off for at least 15 minutes should reset the unit. Maybe that fixes things. (mind the radio code!)

Default How many miles are on the trans?

When's the last time you did a fluid/filter change?

Per PaulW, this will likely resolve it for you.

What do you mean J217? The display works, but it has highlighted all the gears.
