Hey guys, I'm thinking about getting a '98 A8. Any good performance mods for the 4.2?
I have a 98 A4 1.8TQ & a 90 200TQ, but don't know anything about the A8 or its 4.2.
Any info is appreciated.

No, not really. The A8 is such a low-volume auto that the aftermarket ignores it.
We're talking really basic things here .. K&N air filters, free-flowing cats and exhausts .. there's a chip but who pays $500 for 15HP ??
Anyway, via free-breathing, you could be seeing an extra 40HP but that's about it for add-ons in the engine dept.
Other things are available, like Big Brakes, and height-adjustable coil-overs, anti-roll bars .. nothing like what the A4 guys have available.

There is stuff, it's just that low volume is expensive...
there is the MTM supercharger and supposedly some ECU chips, but we're waiting for a verdict on those.
You can mod the car a bit with the VAG-COM by altering the shift pattern in the transmission to a "sport mode" instead of the "learning mode."
