I've got all the parts + Teddybgame's excellent wiring harness. How did you cut down the A4 radio's trim to fit the S8 radio's opening. I don't want the result to look ghetto

I looked at swapping the face plates, but they don't seem to be the same pattern. Am I missing something?

Get a towel for the work bench. Get a second set of hands to hold the unit while you work.

Tape the front of the unit just above the silver trim piece on the front bottom to prevent scratching it, I put 2 or 3 layers.

Just unscrew the two tiny torx screws at the bottom of the unit holding the silver trim on. I couldn't get mine out so I drilled the heads off. I then forced it off.

Using a hacksaw, cut the little "gutter" area where the silver trim piece use to be so it is flush with the bottom of the unit. If you pull your old radio, you can see that it's the same dimension as the A8 radio with the gutter removed.

Once you hack saw through that (that's where you need the second set of hands), then bevel the pieces behind that, so it will sit flat on the HVAC control unit. I didn't bevel mine at first, so there was a slight gap between the two due to interference.

Then I pulled it again and figured what the interference was.....and used a regular file to file down the little pieces shown below.

Then to shape the top, I just took 120 grit sand paper on a small sanding block and rounded the corners manually. Just keep fitting it, you'll get it.

Total time to do this was about 20-30 minutes. There will be a very small gap on the sides as it tapers to the top that only you will be able to notice.

Post some pics! Can't remember what you are doing, fitting the Symphony II with Sat radio controls? Putting in a XM or Sirius tuner?

I'm swapping out the old symphony for a symphony 2 in my S8. Thanks to ebay, I picked up a Terk antenna and the symphony 2 from an A4. Got an XM module from genuineaudiparts.com for $100 and an amazing wiring harness from Ted Basile to link everything up.
I'll take some pics and try to post them.

I used to have one in my dearly departed A8L, but now have the Symphony II. I miss the button on the bottom right (Random) of the Symphony I. It allowed me to randomly play songs from playlists on my phatbox.

Anyone know how to get that function to work on the Symphony II?

What makes the Symphony II better than a Symphony I?
