Hid for the fog lights?

That, too. To server their true purpose, with HID you're shooting yourself in the foot.
Personal preference though. I just don't like it when people retrofit HID and do a poor job. One where the color temp is either way above OEM, or where they put em into a housing that doesn't have the proper optical properties...

There's no real point to retrofitting HID for the high-beam...
Unless you really think you can justify it with use. Just my opinion. I rarely need my high beams.
Because I hated the stock projectors' optical qualities and also wanted to install HID's, I decided to retrofit Acura TSX projectors in place of the stock Bosch units. You have most likely seen a TSX driving at night. Razor sharp cutoff and a nice spread, the former being especially important for the 55W setups.
If you have a little time on your hands and want a Bi-Xenon setup, try retrofitting a Bi-Xenon projector as a DIY project. I have yet to read about anyone attempting this with the A8, but it should be possible.
With a Bi-Xenon projector, there is only one bulb used for both the high AND low beams. When you select the high beam, a solenoid attached to the projector actually moves the metal cutoff shield to allow more light to pass.
Now, this obviously requires that you modify your car to send the proper signal to the solenoid upon activation of the high-beam. Normally, your high-beam wire simply recieves power and the bulb lights. This would require a different setup, possibly using some sort of controller. I know many of these Bi-Xenon projectors utilize three wires, too.
Hope this sheds some light on the situation.<ul><li><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvxUWYKA3_Y">Bi-Xenon Video</a></li></ul>
