I told him I am not relayed nor do I have plans to do so. He indicates that the extra 10W over stock is inconsequential when it comes to power draw and heat at the connector. He is the man in automotive lighting steering many urS owners to the HIRs. Alas no HIRs for us. Thoughts on the extra 10W and what it may do to stock wiring?

I upgraded my fog lights and high-beams to HIDs. They were a plug and play sorta. The HIDs at startup draw more current to charge the ballast. After that they draw less power. The fog lights now are a yellowish color (3K I think 35W) and the high beams are around the same color as the lows (4300 I think 50W). The high beams are now way f@$king bright!! I can see about 2 blocks way in my neighborhood. I did have to make a hole in the back of the fog light cover and the headlight cover too, about 1.5" or so. The rest was plug and play, I velcroed the ballast on the low beam ballast. Took about 1 hour total to do. If anybody is interested I could take a few picks and post the difference.

18% will cause an increase in current draw of that same 18% (assuming constant voltage in the system, which it should be). I'm sure that these lighting and electrical systems were designed with at LEAST 20% margin, so using the 65W bulb should not be a problem. That being said, I don't think I'd go any higher than that without relaying the current, and who knows if the housing could take the heat even if you did relay the power.
