Default Highway Gas Mileage - since replacement of pre cat 02 sensors

I drove from Chicago to MI and back today, very flat roads, going about 70 MPH, then about 40 miles of around town and highway out to Gabor's and back.....

Highest I think I've ever seen on the trip computer from before: 24.5 MPG, usually about 22-23 MPG.

Today before going to Gabor's: 29.5 MPG

After returning: 27.5 MPG

I would say that it probably got better since replacing the sensors. I have seen people post these numbers before, but now I'm a believer.

Used the Bosch generic sensors for about $95 each.

BTW, from which angle were you able to get to the pre-cat 02 sensors from?

After replacing the pre-cat O2 sensors the indicated milage has appeared to drop to about 16 mpg I recall the average was closer to 18.

Actual around town ,very short drive in winter milage is a solid 15 mpg. A highway run is needed to assess true milage figures.

Seems like bad news

Default They're up top, between the engine and the firewall.

I did mine while I was doing my timing belt, and was back there getting to the cam ends for the cam lock and seal replacement.

You'll need an O2 socket, which you can probably get loaners of, at Advance Auto Parts.

Default the pass side 40v one is incredibly hard from up top. Might be able to be done through the tie rod

cutout which I discovered when changing my cat on that side.
