Default homelink project

Well I'm at it again. Repairs I'm execellent at. Upgrades-not so much. After mutlating my sunvisor(75.00 sigh) my homelink wont work. I have read many writeups but no one has pics of the project. Where do you wire it up to? My sunvisor has all brass and no wires and the only closed circut is the center switch. No matter where I solder the wires to the homelink doesn't respond and my sunvisor lights still work. Any help out there? thanks

Default What year is your car?

I'm not sure about the facelift cars, but the 97-99 cars are wired with one terminal at the hinge, and one at the clip. The permanent hinge of the visor is one terminal, and the clip toward the passenger side is the other.

You can verify this by noticing that your vanity lights on the mirror don't work when the visor is unclipped and positioned to block the sun from your side window (unclipping and moving it opens the circuit). Also, as you start to rotate the visor up into its storage position, the vanity lights will turn off.

With this info, you should be able to figure out where to wire the homelink. I just ran a new wire from the clip, under the headliner and down by the hinge so that my homelink works no matter what position the visor is in.

Good luck.

Default I did something similar to get power .........

I added a little metal strip on the clip to keep the circuit closed all the time. This way Homelink works with or without the ignition ON. My facelift needs the ignition ON for Homelink to work. Nice looking ride Thomas!

Default power to the visor is only when it's flipped down.

see my post below. Sorry, didn't take pics when doing it

https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/132986.phtml</a
