Hooray, just got my car back. Looks like the problem with the misfire in cylinder 4 was a bad fuel

injector. And a new purge valve seems to have solved the Evap issues. However, looks like I now have a leaky brake booster. Anyone know if these things are hard to replace?

Default 'Twas electrical. The injector kept registering different resistances whenever it was "tapped"

or hit on it's side lightly. Resistances, i believe, anywhere from ~12 to 300-something ohms. Anyway, with the diagnosis (for both the cylinder misfiring and Evap system) and the part, it was $500. Kinda steep, but whatever- I'm glad it's over and done with.

Default If I remember correctly your output test showed numerous fires of all injectors but only

one or two on #4

Yes, you are correct. The output tests fired all the injectors constantly, but #4 was intermittent.

Good result-nice to put these things to bed once and for all-even with the $500 bill

Default Congrats - that's gotta feel good. Can you elaborate on the "purge valve"? My PCV has...

...failed AGAIN - replaced *maybe* 20k ago and it's honking like a goose again, 1000000x worse than the first failure. I tore the "valve" apart last time and the rubber inside was severely degraded - nearly disintegrated. How failed in 20k again is beyond me.

Basically, I'm wondering is that what you mean by "purge valve"? My CEL's been on for 2yrs w/ only "EVAP" code, I've thus far ignored but I'm now due next month for biannual emissions - yay. Dropping it off in a.m. en route to 2wks @ beach for diag., any notes you can provide appreciated. Course I'll only have net access for another 6hrs - d'oh.

Again, congrats - and - TIA.

Default Hi Paul, I think we may be talking about different things. The purge valve I replaced looks like

the one in the link (it's located just rear-ward of the airbox). It doesn't look like it can be taken apart. If you are having problems with your PCV valve, I think that's a different issue, unfortunately, and I don't know very much about it. Sorry I can't be of any help, but I also don't want to lead you down an incorrect path by giving you false information.<ul><li><a href="http://www.autohausaz.com/search/product.aspx?sid=uh5qmx55b5ghgcvp11tsdtn4&amp;make id=800002@Audi&amp;modelid=1383016@A8%20QUATTRO%20 (AKB%20ENGINE)&amp;year=2002&amp;cid=valve@valve&a mp;gid=5888@Air%20Box%20Relief%20Valve">Purge Valv

Default Thanks for the thoughts - I dropped it off before I left for the beach and they're on it now...

...wish me luck.
