How common is dead cruise control switch?

I had problems with my cruise as well, and went through changing the switch, and it didnt fix the problem. Finally I found it was the vacuum valve on the brake pedal. This is a failsafe to prevent the cruise from working when the brake is depressed. The valve on mine was not being closed by the brake pedal. All it took was screwing the valve in a couple of turns, and all worked great.

Put it in the freezer, then install and go for a drive and see if cruise works
