How critical is the belly pan?

Had my oil changed at a Valvoline drive thru supplying my own filter. Noticed today that they must not have screwed the belly pan back on properly because it is hanging down in front. I get my oil changed every 4-6 weeks due to high mileage and it will be a hassle if I have to wonder each time if they put it back on properly. Would it be OK to store it in the basement until I sell the car? I have a Porsche 928 that I run without the belly pan for the same reasons.

The belly pan helps reduce aerodynamic drag, but more importantly the engine and transmission cooling air flow was designed with it in place. If you look at the belly pan towards the rear, you can see two NACA air inlets that direct cooling air onto the transmission. It may not matter much, but if you live in a hot climate or run your car hard, I would personally try to keep the belly pan on. IMHO.

I've been told by a local ( national ) oil change outlet that they add about $10 to an oil change to remove and reinstall the underside covers. Now that was few years back ( with my then '97 ) and I have been going to my local AUDI dealer while under free MA. Is this true or was it rip-off scam?
Just had to a oil pressure switch replaced when a big time oil leak appeared. $8.25 part and $93.25 labor. But I got a 2002 A6-4.2 loaner to drive for a day, car washed, etc. Boy those P6000's are loud. Fun to drive someone elses car fast and agressive, if you know what I mean.
