Default how do i check my tranny fluid level?

i had my tranny rebuilt recently and it seems to have hard shifts, very noticable on cold startup and the first mile of driving. It seems to slip under very light throttle when its cold. could this be a symptom of low or incorrect fluid? if the fluid is low, easy fix...if i can figure out how to check it. if the level is correct, i might be that the shop didnt use OEM audi fluid and just used their run of the mill tranny gunk instead. HELP. Im not much of a mechanic so hopefully the level check is pretty easy.

Default Audipages have the procedure of changing the fluid,

In there you can find how to check the correct level. I don't think you can do it your self. Go back to the shop they put it in and ask them if the used the AUDI fluid or a regular ATF and have them check the level, using AUDIPAGES procedure.

http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/auto_transmission/autotranservicing.html</a

Default would low fluid (ie. to the factory fill line) cause the tranny to shift hard...

and awkwardly on cold startup? would non OEM fluid do that?

Default Yes, you need to check the fluid level if you have the symptoms you describe

Add as required.

Default I would bring it to somewhere with a lift

Preferably to the place that did the rebuild. I would do this ASAP.

Or you can do it in your garage on jack stands.

Default my prediction: low fluid.

One way to test this without actually checking the fluid is to accelerate quickly from a stop on an incline. The 1-2 shift will be harsh.
