How do you clean and lub the sunroof mechanism?
Cleaning and lubricating the sunroof mechanism is a recommended service item. Has anyone done this? I'm looking for directions on the procedure and what lubricant is best to use

Sunroof, cleaning and lubricating runners
- Examine sunroof for leaks and corrosion damage.
- Clean runners and spray with silicone lubricant D 007 000 04.
- Check operation of sunroof.
I hope this helps....

I haven't done A8s, but my A4 has been done twice, very similar.
there is a tech section on this for the A4s, with pictures and detailed instruction. On the A4,
1. pop off the interior light lens
2. remove 2 screws, and pull down the fixture
3. unplug plugs to the roof and lights
4. you can see the sunroof switch potentiometer now.
5.you can pop off the top cover of this potentiometer carefully with a small flat screw driver.
6. clean the inside with alcohol pads, and bend the contact "fingers" at better angle.
Since my last cleaning on my A4 a year ago, it has not malfunctioned. Prior to that, it would either open, tilt, by itself all the time as if it was possessed.
