I have a 99 and if your set up is the same (I think it is) programming is very easy.
1) set mirrors, wheel, seat, seatbelt, headrest, etc to the desired position.
2)hold the program button (it is between 1,2/3,4 memory spots and press desired memory. (one for the 1st driver, etc)
3)the only thing you have left is to sync your remote with the memory location.
With ignition on, hold desired memory button, and press remote control "open" button. This will sync the memory.
Good luck

In my 2001 S8 the * on drivers side applies whatever position is programmed into the #1 (I think) position on the passenger side.
(It was fairly well laid out in the owners manual)
In my case I have it programmed so that it slides the passenger seat all the way forward and tilts the back forward too. I use it when my only passengers are my kids in the back seat - this way its one less time their footprints wind up on the back of the seats.
