I don't think it shifts 4-5, it just locks/unlocks the TC.

Actually it shouldn't hunt when it is cold. The TC locks when the fluid is a little warm.

Good. Not that I have any clue why it's doing it.

I hope the hunting doesn't come back often, but even if it does, your experiment has at least shown that the MAF sensor and ECU are participants.
