The HVAC in a 99' A8 uses R-134a refrigerant, correct?

I'm being a bit lazy here, I admit. But I know that you guys are going to know. I found an A/C premium recharge kit with a hose, two bottles of high mileage "stop leak" and a bottle of R-134s synthetic A/C booster for 75% off (=$8.70), so I picked it up. I don't think I really need the "stop leak" (do I?), or should I put a can in for good measure? - Advice?

you will try a shop.At this point the shop will evacuate the system and the sealant could potentially ruin the a/c machine.
Take it to reputable shop and let them do it correctly. It should cost ya $150-200.
The system HAS to have the correct amount of refridgerant to work right. The only wat to do this is to evaluate pressures or evacuate the system and charge it with the specified amount.
Good luck
