Dropping the valve body wouldn't be a bad idea....but if there is a lot of foreign material in there, you could also just go on your merry way and then change the fluid and filter again in a month or two, everything will collect on the magnets again and you can clean them off.

1)Why not save the $$$ of buying new fluid in a month or so and just drop the valve body at the time when you have the pan off?
2)Second thought I had was does any metal filings attached to the input sensors "throw off" these sensors at all? Sounds far-fetched but from what I've read and heard these sensors are extremely sensitive to electrical system variances. FWIW
You didn't like my joke about my GMC?

That GMC must be a rider! ;-)
I think the only way to get the particles out is to get rid of the Chia Pet by cleaning it off...then the rest of the small particles can catch on them again....I don't think there is anything else magnetic in the tranny. Even if you drop the valve body, you can't get all the filings out....you would need to drop the pan again to clean the magents again.
ScotD did this on his car, he had "limp home" a bunch, we did that nasty oil change, he had one or tow more limp home modes in the next month or two and did the change again.....he hasn't had one since. And we thought his tranny was gone for sure. I'm not saying his tranny isn't a good canidate for a rebuilt unit, but you never know how long it might last for a total of about $400 in parts and oil.
Now go plow some driveways with that truck!

Thanks for the response PW. Talked with the reapir shop tonight They talked with ZF aand service at ZF agreed what the almighty (PW) said 2 weeks ago and that was to check the Valve body. We decided to just send the whole Valve Body back to GA for testing.
We have a few inches of fresh snow so I must go and get plowing! After all the common folk will be up in a few hours!
PS-Saw in a recent post that you and I share a another common thread- Boats! We'll have to talk about that another day......
