Just drove home a 2000 A8 SWB with 38K miles. I'll put all my newb questions in one thread so as not to clutter up things too much.
I noticed that 18 in ET 48 wheels are the "right" size for the A8, but I can only find (so far) ET 35 wheels that I like the look of (I'm pretty tame when it comes to wheels), anyone have an opinion on spacing this out with a 1/2 inch spacer to have correct track?
I've been looking at pictures of lowered A8's, it looks like the Bilstein/Eibach kits are slightly higher in the fronts, am I mistaken?
Coming from my a4, I've always liked a firm brake pedal, this one feels a bit mushy to me. I've found s/s front lines at ECS but no rear lines, anyone know a source?
Finally, the previous owner reported an intermittent failure to start...they thought it might be related to the MAF. any known issues there?

Search button will find your answers
MAF failure is rare but it may be fuel pressure issue.
Is it when cold or warm that it spazo's out?
Most A8's seem to have a bigger wheel gap at the front.
Look at the line of the door trim to guage how a car is positioned.

Therefore....spacers will not help as the ET 35 is already pushed out 13mm more than the ET 48.
Congrats on the car!

Brake Block and you will find a mod to firm things up. The master cylinder moves noticably when you step on the brakes. The block slips between the stress bar and the MC keeping the MC from moving. I had 30 made up recently during a GB and ordered some extra just in case. $25 shipped in the U.S. if'n you find you are interested.

is there a thread that discusses this? Why does the cylinder move, is the firewall flexing that much?

I'm not sure I have the same problem you are having.
I made a little aluminum foil cone and put it between the stressbar and master cylinder. if the cylinder moves, it'll crush the foil cone. I then took a short little drive to see how much movement I'm getting.
the foil shows that under drive conditions, I'm getting less than 1 mm of cylinder travel, so that's not the issue for me.
The brake fluid is 7 years old, brakes have not been bled since 2001. The previous owner was fastidious about changing the engine oil and flushing the coolant, but never serviced the brakes. I'm flushing all fluid tomorrow morning, wish me luck.
