Default I guess my TB job will have to wait until my 90k service.

I discussed this issue at length this morning w/ my service advisor and even though the car is almost 7 years old at 80k mi, they said there's no need to change it now - just the 80k service which includes spark plugs, etc.

He said they've never seen one fail and I'm safe for another 10k. Time to start logging some serious miles!

Has anyone been told otherwise?

Only if the front end has tpo be pulled anyway. I've stuck with 90K intervals on the old girl

Default I'm at 67K on an '03 and will likely be doing my TB in a month or so Jim...

Why? Nobody said I should I just feel good about it. Did my urS6 after she only had 30K on the belt as it was 5 years. I have no data points to say I need to but I will nonetheless on the S8. That and Jim and Olu are in the hood each with ~ 90K so might as well make a party of it no?

Default I replaced my A8's TB at 87K miles, and it still looked new. I'm sure you're good for at least.....

another 10K. Be sure they replace all the pulleys, tensioner, thermostat, and water pump at the same time.

I've never heard of one failing either. It's always the WP, etc. that goes.

As MPollan said, I guess it's time to do them for myself and Jim-03S8, as we both have over 90K. I know with the pre-facelift A8 it had to be done at or before 90K, so I wasn't sure if the 105K in the manual was accurate for the S8.

They quoted ~$1,600, so I'm assuming it's for everything. I'll make sure- thanks!

Default Not so fast...

As I have posted before, my car had the timing belt fail (unbeknownst to me at the time of purchase). I came across a post from the son of the PO explaining the car experienced timing belt failure. Now granted, it could have been from the water pump seizing. The mechanic marked the mileage on the intake manifold at 89500 for the timing belt replacement. That being said, when Audi sez 90k/105k, they mean it so don't push it.

I had mine done recently, bought the timing belt kit and water pump from SJM autotechnik for 300.00 took it to the local Audi dealership and it cost around 500.00 in labor to have them install the parts.
