Default The problem with VW is that they put too much into

the Bentley, Phaeton and other lines that are NOT their bread and butter. Bad planning? No planning?

Default Re: Thump! - We are Spoiled

I had an S-10 Blazer in high school and college. The early American SUVs were known for the transmissions to fail after 70k miles in some cases. If you had an early Cherokee, Bronco II, or S10 Blazer, all of the transmissions in this first generation were JUNK!

My last year of college, it was seven years old and really falling apart. My A8 at seven is where this car was at three to four. I drove it with a bad transmission for two years. It would thump and grind and make all kinds of noices.

Bottom Line: A thump may mean its going but that could mean in a year or two. If you go back in your mind to cars you've owned when you had less money. I bet you can recall driving a car that "needed work" but it still got you from point A to point B.

Default Is your thump the "coasting to a stop" thump or the 65 mph thump?

I have the coasting to a stop thump, it happens when the car is warm and on a sunny warm day. Go figure. I've read in other forums (A6,S4) that this is not abnormal for audi, it could be CV joints or an over-pressurized tranny.

Default 65 mph coast down

Hello,

Mine is the 65 mph, let off the throttle, coast down, then thump problem.

I bought 7 litres of 'magical, no one knows how to make transmission fluid like we do' Audi trans fluid (at the discounted price is $15 / bottle) and I will change the fluid this weekend. I don't have much hope it will fix the problem, but hey, it's something I can do.

Default My experience with another car

Caddy with 160,000 developed funny torque converter lock/unlock at highway speed. Sometimes caused CEL to come on and car to die. No fun on expressway!

Had a complete drain and refill of the fluid and no problems since. Now over 210,000 miles.

Default "magical, no one knows how to make transmission fluid like we do"

That pretty much sums up my disgust also. I wonder how much of a kickback it took to buy the single source recommendation.
