Default I hope I found my "clicking, clunking" noise in my suspension/steering

I received my tie rod end the other day....inner and outer.

The inner has a nylon bushing around the ball joint on the right side of the picture. I'm thinking for sure this is it....

Going to have the two upper right control arms replaced and the left complete tie rod assembly then get it aligned at the dealer next week.

A local is doing the control arms/tie rod.

It only does the clicking when my foot is on the brake and at a stop I turn my wheel back and forth.

I probably should of gotten two, but I didn't.

Would an inner from a '97 A4tq work? I think my roommate still has an inner (new) that was for his car (t-boned by a Z71 in Valpo).

Paul, What are the chances the '04 A8 uses the same control arm assembly as pre '04 models

Default Let us know if that's the problem. I've had that thunk in the steering for almost 2 years now.

The symptoms are exactly as you describe yours. I originally thought mine was from a minor fender bender a couple years ago when I was hit directly on the right front wheel at 15mph.

Hopefully the addition of a new control arm/linkage set in a few weeks will fix the problem for me. Let me know how you make out.

Thanks.

Default Is it a repetetive thunk when standing still....

...with no steering input? Or is it as Paul states, a thunk with steering input.

I've got a gentle thunk in my steering wheel and felt theough my brake pedel that happen when still & at very low speeds.

TIA

Default With my hand at 12:00 on top of the steering wheel, I feel it

when I turn the wheel to the left to about 9:00 and to the right about 3:00. Only when I hit 9 & 3 do I feel the thunk. I only feel it in the steering wheel when still, not in the brakes or when the car is moving.

Any ideas?

Default Mine seems almost constant and regular.

Almost like the PS pump is maxing out and releasing. Tump, thump, thump, very subtle noise and vibration, but it's there.

Not what you and Paul are experiencing.
