I was thinking of buying a beautiful fire red (I think its a 1999) Audi Cabriolet, but my boyfriend wants me to get a used Audi S8 he found for sale down the street. I think the S8 he found is a 2001 model. I tell him that the Cabriolet will be more reliable than the S8. Plus, I think that the S8 is not as sexy as the Cabriolet :-P Who is right? Did I win a girls night out, or did he win a boys night in? :-)

but as far as "stunning great looks" is concerned, there's very little comparison!
My wife drives an S8 and sometimes she thinks it's too big for her as she's frequently downtown and has to park in tight spots. I rest easy knowing she's in one of the safest vehicles ever manufactured.
I helped my next door neighbor (the wife) acquire a silver Audi cab earlier this year and she's in heaven - always driving around w/ the top down and with her little dog in her lap!
Good luck w/ your decision and post pics of your new ride one way or the other.

If you are young, unmarried and no kids, get the cabriolet. There is plenty of time for the big car when you need to drive kids to soccer, vacations when you are dragging 1/2 the house along etc. For now, you want the wind through your hair, fancy free driving experience and all the attention you will get. Maybe this is what is worrying your boyfriend!

being that the older Audi Cabro is based on the old "audi 90" platform, FWD and having that bulletproof V6 in it, it's a lot less complicated and extremely reliable. The only thing I've ever heard about them is the rear window (plastic) yellowing and the trans going at high mileage (150k+). Also a few electrical issues with the top usually the switch itself being the problem. Other than that, it is a very tough car.
The S8 is also a very good car, a lot quicker and a lot more roomier. However, being quattro and many more mech items in general, it's going to need more maintenance. Plain and simple.
I'd still take the S8 ..... hands down!!
