I am debating between a few cars. I know the answer from the B5 forum. I've also seen some really nice S8 6spds laying around for under 20k euro.

Any thoughts on going for it. I will be living in brussels. Gas costs are not a huge concern either. I still love the D2's rather understated body style.

Black on black with the black alcantara recaro sport seats and six speed. Yum!

RS6 is also on the list, though I hate automatics.

I guess the other note is whatever car I have it will see the Nurburgring which is only a 155 miles away :-)

Default Heh heh... well isn't *that* just the unfortunate quandary...

...you've may find yerself presented with???!

Good for you.

Having driven both in anger, I'd say it's a toss up of a few variables. RS4 is on my short list for like my next next car or something. It's quite an appealing machine, something about 40v @ 8,250 red yeah. An interior to die for. Phenomenal handling, exquisite feel. On-board navchic beckoning for help. You know, all the good stuff.

But...

...toss an //S8 STICK into the mix? The answer becomes 'depends' (unlike the undergarment).

Depends cost to cost. My guess is you'll find the //S8 cheaper. Gas to gas they should eat about the same, maybe the RS4 slightly less in that it's slightly higher tech (like what 12.5:1 compression!) tho negated by the new found WOT redline giddiness assuredely.

D2 is an altogether outright different ownership experience. Lotta intangibles, if you have an A8 now you know some of them. Something about this "class" of vehicle, the all aluminumness, the shoulder / hip room, the Just Not Right things a car its size will do. Just plain fun.

So, that, should hopefully, only serve to further confuze you. Or something.

HMmmmm... Der Nordscheleife only 150 away??? Fargin Sneaky Bastige, I say. That'd be a baaaaaad thing for Paul, very bad. I'm only up to ~ 60 miles on it, if I lived nearby my marriage / life would be in pathetic trouble. Like "Nurburgringer" here Super Keith Maddock and his what, 12,000 (thousand) MILES. Yes I did start the "I Hate Keith Fanclub", if you wanna join. Move there and dethrone him uh huh 8-).

Good fer you! Paul seyz DO IT, whatever "it" is.

Hope that helps. Or doesn't.

Going used I don't really have a need for a new car there since my time is limited. 3-4 years tops.

Some thoughts from Europe (Netherlads):

Brussels' traffic is very congested and police speed checks have increased dramatically in Belgium. You'll need something that allows you to drive easily, a nervous RS4 will get you a LOT of speeding tickets.

If you want an RS4, you want the very latest one. The best television program for petrolheads (Top Gear / Jeremy Clarkson) has concluded that the new RS4 is the best performance car money can buy at this moment, far outweighing a BMW M3.

So, I would opt for the A8/S8: it does allow you to drive in comfort and gives you the "je ne sais qoui" of its design and class.

And, since you are not going to buy new, check the second hand prices in Germany (www.automobile.de). Importing a used car into Belgium might be a very interesting option, money/feature-wise

I'd take the six speed S8. Add the Supercharger at a later date. :-)

Default How ugly is it to import a car into belgium from germany???

Is there a lot of paper work involved?

Also whats this garbage about a 6-8 week waiting period to get a car on the road after you bought it? I heard that from someone who lives over there... btw I know its illegal but I plan to bring my passport 8500 radar detector along for the ride, and do a concealed setup in whatever car I get.

I was also considering the Valentine 1 in mirror setup. I know its expensive but from what i've read versus the fines its well worth it. I figure if its concealed in the mirror there isnt any way they could really find it.
