Default I'm back......as if anyone missed me

Well a year after selling my 2000 A8, I am back with a vengance. I just took delivery of a 2001 blk on blk S8. 27K miles with parktronic, cold and warm weather and nav. Not sure if some of this was combined in a package on the S8? Audi Certified to 100K.

I will post a pic as soon as I take some photos. Glad to be back, now for that quad exhaust.....

Two questions while I am at it.

1) Tip/Engine Chip? Does Giac make one? I thought I used to have a pdf catalog from them that listed one. Can't find one on the website now.

2) Front Euro plate insert. I have the smooth panel, I know that there is a piece I need for when I remove the smooth cover to fit the Euro plate. Anyone know a part number?

Thanks, and it is great to be back. The S8 is everything I hoped it would be. And to think, people actually opt for a 7 series over this.

Default Congratulations with the S8!

Sounds great! Looking forward to the pics. :-)

I do know Motodyne makes a gearbox chip, but stories about it differ. They claim it reduces the delay, but I'm curious to hear some feedback from an S8 owner.

The license plate bracket *might* be 4D0 807 287 K. That's the only one I can find a number for (13). Looks like there are others though, maybe these are the US models?

Default Re: Sven, question for you

Sven,

Are the three slat holes visable at the bottom of your front plate, looking down at the bumper. If not, I think it might be part number 14 on your diagram.

I think that 12 is the fill in plate, 13 is the us braket and 14 is the Euro plate holder. Anc you send me the part number for 14?

I have got to get the ETK for this car.

Thanks,

Stephen

Default Check your e-mail...I sent you GIAC application pdf

They do have the TIP and ECM chips listed. Hope this helps.

Default That's the problem.... they aren't listed. Only 13 has a part nr.

in my version of ETKA. :-(

I'm thinking there must be a separate US version of ETKA/ETOS.

F.i.:

1). there are two types of outer taillights in the US, one with red and one with orange indicators. Yet there's one part nr. listed here.

2). I have the 'stowage compartment / shelf' in the lower LH dash, in the US they are closed as I understand. Same thing there, the closed version isn't listed here AFAIK.

Maybe someone with a US parts catalogue can help...?

(I'd be interested to see that BTW) ;-)

Sorry I can't help you further...

Default Great car you've got there!

I don't know about GIAC, but Sportec makes both engine and tip chips for the S8. I got mine from Autosport Werks in Boulder, CO. The Autosport Werks website recently got fancier, but still doesn't have any information on Sportec stuff...you still need to call them and talk to someone about getting the chips installed.

I found that after removing the smooth cover plate form the front of the S8, there are a couple of threaded 'nut-serts' in the bumper...I also found that the bumper is curved, not flat. So if you use a flat euro-plate holder, the plate will stick up, away from the bumper, at the left and right edges (which I think looks kinda dorky). So I just drilled a couple holes in my euro plate, bent it slightly by hand to match the curvature of the bumper, and then used a couple bolts to attach the plate directly to the bumper.

Default Congrats.....

....I don't know what I would rather have, a stock S8 or my A8.....

Or better yet, my car as a track car and a S8 for a daily driver.

I really need to get track wheels and tires.

Default You can get frames like this...

So you don't have to put nasty bolts through your plates. You bolt them to the bumper, and the plates simply click in place (see arrows).

(I blanked the plate, but take my word for it, there are no bolts) ;-)

Default Re: Thanks, I have got one, so I will try

Sven,

Thanks for the idea. I have an old trim bracket from a Euro plate that was on my M8.

Thanks again,

Stephen
