Hello all,
Doing the brake pads as I type this and found this on the driver side - what is it and do I need it. You will see in the picture that the previous owner tied the stuff up.
Thank you,
Noel Sawyer

The OEM pads come with a sensor that lights up the dash when the pad wears down. Most (any?) aftermarket pads have no sensor, hence no wires. You cut the wire from the worn OEM pad and tie (solder)the wires together to keep the light off. If you go back to OEM pads you unplug your shunt, plug in your new OEM pads and you're back in business.
I swapped mine too long ago to help with the prongs (CRS Syndrome)
Have fun & Good Luck

As Terrybill said, if the pad he put in didnt have the sensor, that would keep the brake wear light on the dash off. PAds from Mintex and EBC have the sensor on them.

I like the knot with the wire around the hydraulic line. Very nice touch. That would never come undone, would it? :-)
