Default How many miles had the old filter been in service?

The 5% gain is certainly significant, but it could easily be explained by an old dirty filter. I'd be curious to see a comparison between a new OE filter and a K&N.

Default old filter (Mahle) had about 30,000 miles on it. It wasnt terribly dirty- I've seen worse.

but a comparo of new filters would have been more accurate. I'd be curious to see what X pipes and a center and rear muffler would add.

Default MAF: H-pipe versus X-pipe

With only a crossover change on his 97 A8, <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/99521.phtml">KaMaKaZieP Reported</a> increasing MAF from 206 to 211 g/sec.

After a <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/54951.phtml">Supersprint Exhaust</a> with stock H-pipe was installed on PaulW's 97 A8, I measured 216 g/sec (sorry I don't have a "before").

<a href="http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=1,20,22,25,27,3&Number=246410&pag e=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1">Swen Reported</a> 292 g/sec after installing an X-pipe to his S8's already <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/56520.phtml">Custom Dual Exhaust</a>, which compares to the 253 g/sec I've measured on my stock S8.

Don't forget altitude and air temperature when comparing others' g/s numbers
