Default Instrument cluster repairs....

Hi folks,

I have an aged A8 (94-95) and the display screen in the middle of the dash gauge panel is un-readable.
It looks like the LCD (?) has broken up and is just a big red blob now.

What i would like to know is, if i find a replacement for this from a breakers yard, can i swap just the screen and not the whole cluster?
I dont want to screw up the mileage counter etc.... somebody told me that if you disconnect the cluster, it wipes its memory and needs re-setting by Audi themselves??

Whats my chances?
Cheers,
Ant

Instrument cluster never forgets the mileage. There is no way to reset it.

Default pre 2000's can be repaired, or just pick up a used one. Facelift repair does not exist and needs to

be installed and recoded at the dealer.
