I had some time to kill tonight so I thought I would work on freeing up the intake runners like a few other have done.
Long story short, the part where the shaft rotates on mine were completely fused together.
I broke the first one but was able to cobble together some parts together from my old engine.
The second one did the same thing so now I'm stuck with the car all apart and only "1/2" fixed.
I need the plastic piece on the end of the shaft which is now broken off. There's a hex key which locks it the spring assembly that you can see on the front of the engine.
All I need is that black piece but they don't sell it seperately. Does anyone have any 40v intake parts laying around?
Anyone do plastic fabrication?
Bob

Bummer indeed. I wondered what I would do if mine broke and in my little writeup I tried to stress how fragile these parts seemed to me. Guess they were.
A piece of Zytel or other tough plastic rod and somebody with a small lathe would appear to be the next step.
You can put it back together w/o the flappers short term, you would just be in the high rev-lower torque mode. Plug the shaft holes, of course.
Check the vacmotors for leaks.
Again: sorry.

I remember seeing something in vag that allowed you to view the intake manifold change over by watching the group while raising the rpm past 6500.
Sorry cant help with parts but thought I could chip in to help other members check their IMCO valves function

That caught me a little off guard so you were fortunate that yours came apart.
I'm going to try and think of something. I hate to put it all back together not fixed.
Do you think it will have any positive or negative effects with just one side working?
I've was able to do a good cleaning on my throttle body at least.
