Two weeks ago, after a few days and nights of work when I swapped my 97' tranny with a 02', I still had problems with it. Shifting was terrible, the TC was locking/ unlocking all the time. After a week or so it was much better, the TCU learned my driving behavior but I still had noise from the tranny. I took it back to the shop again and this is what we did.

Now it feels like a new car! No more hunting, it feels absolutely flawless. There is no gasket between the tranny and the valve body, so if it is not sealed perfectly, it is going to suck air ( specially with dirty filter ) not oil. That big hole next to the speed sensor is the input. This is the top what you see. On the bottom you have the filter connected to this hole. I have this car for almost a year now, but it never shifted this smooth before, and believe me, I changed the fluid and filter at least 5 times. My transmission buddy told me that Honda uses liquid gasket only on their tranny. If you overheated your tranny before, there is a chance that the valve body is warped a little and it can loose pressure. Some of these channels, that you see on the picture, holds the pressure on the clutches and we know what happens if there is no pressure.

I would bring my car over to that guy to have him do the same thing to my car.....but it would still be hot....maybe we could just push it out of the shop and let it cool off while we gasket the valve body....I would like to inspect the valve body when it was out.....
I've been really following what my transmission has been doing lately with the clutch shudder and hunting.....and I keep coming back to hydraulic pressure being inadequate or at least not correct.
I would be willing to try this on my car and see what happens. I've been trying to get a used TCU to see if that changes anything, but this would be a cheaper fix!
Thanks!
Paul

I'll be over his way tomorrow....if he was available, I would get some fluid and do it, just had the filter changed about 4 months ago, so I don't think I would need a new one.

But you're probably right. If you think you are done with that other filter (sounds like you are), I'll take it....and give you what you paid for it.
