Default Introducing our Newest HTML Editor!

EscapA8 comes through with another procedure....this one he wrote the code himself!

Floris, all you need is one or two more pointers and you'll have it all figured out!!! Nice job!

For those of you who don't know, EscapA8 has really just started working on cars for the first time in his life. Changing oil is not a routine thing for him.

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/SP8.jpg">

Here he is changing his plugs, writing HTML documents and Photoshopping great pics for us. We already knew he was a Photoshop Pro.

Thanks!<ul><li><a href="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/sparkplug.html">Replacing the spark plugs on an A8</a></li></ul>

Default Why don't you go ahead and tell them the oil change story... :-)

Your version is probably funnier than mine!

Default Who Wants to Know About EscapA8's First Oil Change?

He printed out the audipages instructions, bought everything he needed, and sent his honey downtown Chicago to party while he completed his oil change.

Put the car up on the new Rhino ramps...I'm sure he thought it looked good!

He does the oil change....it is very difficult....he picks up his wife from downtown at 2 A.M. being the good husband he is.....wonders what he does wrong, but what the heck, the car is running just fine and took 7.5 quarts.

Next day he meets me for lunch. Tells me he could only drain <b>1 quart out of the car!</b>

I say, no way.....what do you mean one quart?

He says, I had to start the car for something like 20 seconds at a time to get an additional quart out. Then I would turn off.

I ask, was it really thick? Did you not run the car before hand?

He says....no, it was warm...almost hot.

I told him, don't ever do that again....call me if you are in a situation like that.

We order our food, talk about Mid Ohio....and I go to the bathroom (the whole time I was gabbing to him and his wife about the new house I'm going to buy).

In the bathroom I wonder to myself.....did he open the drain plug or just drop the filter??? He just dropped the filter, never touched the pan drain plug....that's the problem!!!

I go back to the table, ask him, he says "<b><i>pan drain plug??? what's that??? I didn't do anything with that...</i></b>". He has a big **** eatin' grin on his face like I normally do as he realizes what he did....

I said, first you remove the pan drain plug (explained the purpose of a pan on an engine), the picture is right on the procedure!!! He says he didn't see it!

Floris....here's the picture:

<img src="http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/enginemechanical/oilchange2.JPG">

It says "<b><i>Place the pan under the car and using the 10 mm hex head, unscrew the oil pan drain plug and let the oil drain out.</i></b>"

So what did he do?

Drain the oil through the filter...1 qt came out...then he was floundered, started the engine for 20 second intervals until a bunch had come out, the engine didn't make any tapping noises from the lifters or anything.

He then put the new filter in and filled it up! 7 quarts baby!

Now that's a story! Glad nothing bad happened!!

:-)

Should we qualify people writing procedures for audipages? No way, we are on the edge baby!!

Great work Floris, you'll never make that mistake again for the rest of your life. Trust me on that one.

Default Hey Florissimo! Nice job! To boldly go where you've

..never been. It's amazing how after you've done something once, the next go round is sooo much easier. I judge my own progress by having fewer and fewer nutz, boltz n washers left over when complete.
Congrats and nice job on a very thorough and easy to understand write up.
What's up next?

Default See, I was right. Laughing out loud all the way through your version of the story!!! :-)

But the oil actually all came out while I idled the engine for about 20 seconds, while keeping an eye on when the gusher of oil would stop. Now I know better.
