What type of vehicle is this? Its not too smart IMHO to place a cupholder over the electronics!

Thanks randy! They really place the cupholder there?

Default The entire A6 line also has the cupholder in the same place.

Works better than you'd think, but don't put a full drink in there. With closed lid/straw drinks like you get at fast food places/starbucks etc, it works fine.

Sarge, its probably a more intuitive feel plus you can keep your eyes closer to the road. But oh those spills!!

Default I only use the one in my car when the one in the center is in use.

I.e when I have a passenger.

And when you have a passenger and two drinks in the car, it's usually a more mellow driving situation anyway. Otherwise, overall Audi only gets a "C-" across the range for it's drink holders IMO.

Are the new A8's cupholders better designed?

Sarge, personally I do not use the cupholders but the Audi could have done a better job on the A8L holders. The holes mimic the concentric rings assiciated with the badge and it is probably next to impossible to put two cups of the same diameter next to one another! Maybe they believe that the driver should have the bigger cup!! LOL

Well, stop using it, if it bothers you :-)

That's one thing I can't understand, why "all" Americans need cup-holders. Back in good old Germany we've been living without them for ages and we didn't miss them.

So what would happen, if the new A8 didn't have cup-holders:

Interesed-Guy (IG): Does the new A8 have cup-holders?

Sales-Rep.: Sorry, Audi is a German car, they dont't even have cup-holder as an option.

IG: Ok, forget the car, I'll get myself a Caddy...

:-)
That's at least the impression I got, when I was in the U.S.
