Default I can't help you with the lower back pain, but I think that the......

Progressive spring you have in the front is a big reason for the unusually "stiff" ride.
Also remember that the feel of any suspension is very subjective. If you like it soft and nice cruising around town, it will be way too soft for the track. If you have it stiff enough to handle the track, it will be somewhat harsh crusing around town.

Default The H&R coilovers on my last 3 cars had multiple coils that touched like that...

When the car was on the ground. Didn't effect my ride any, and the H&R directions that shipped with them referred to them as "dead coils".

Default You're correct ...

<i>"Changing the ride height within the range of stroke of the damper SHOULDN'T change the compression of the spring."</i> It only changes where in the range of the shock's piston stroke that the shock absorber operates.

One caveat: I suppose it's possible that corner weights could be off so much that one front tire is carrying much more that 1200 lb. [60%*4000lb/2] I'd expect to be able to see a difference in left-right ride height, but the heavy corner would compress the spring more that it should.

Default My opinion.. most of the "stiffness" that we're talking about is the struts not the springs...

as I mentioned before, the diff in the strut valving between stock and the H&amp;R is pretty dramatic. I don't think that the H&amp;R springs are the culprit here, I think 75% of what we're judging as firm is coming from the struts. That would also explain why adjusting the height doesn't change the ride quality all that much.

Default Actually not- the ride height is adjusted by changing the overall length of the.....

coilover, not by compressing the spring. As I stated below, the spring is compressed by the weight of the car, not the damper (unless the damper is at its end of travel).

Default Wont' work, different configuration

It's like that so it can sit on the adjusting ring....the stock spring is not ground.

Default Just to be sure that we are all on the same page.

If you look at these two pictures, it would make sence that the first picture is a stiffer ride.
All but three coils are already compressed together. Not much travel here. Progressive springs

In this picture(below), no coils are all the way compressed. Plenty of travel.
Non progressive springs.

Default Mine look exactly like Kevin's, not like Doug's

Bottom three coils compressed together. They're adjusted about midway in terms of the threading. Anyone follows up with H&amp;R, please advise me.
