I have a bunch of pictures of my install.....and I count 7 3/4 turns on mine. The markings on the front spring is: 29 074 VA (or at least that's what it looks like)
It looks like yours are more like 7 turns.
However, the configuration of the bottom turn just does not seem right (or should I say the same) as skiracer's and mine. Ours are exactly the same.
I wonder if the wrong springs were sent with a bunch of kits.....somebody said that they had them on their A4 and they touched like that.
I bet you do.

Sorry. No man should ever say to another, "savor ye my post". That's just wrong.
But anyway, I talked to my mechanic, Randy Russell of Boulder Autowerks, who I have celebrated before in these pages. He says those are "dead coils", they're very common in kits like these, and their purpose is to provide some expansion room in the event the suspension is ever dramatically unloaded, Dukes of Hazzard style. It's intentional design.
He says H&R makes three different kits just for the E36 3 series Beemer. I think Kevin and I just have different springs than you guys do.
Best of all, we have Dukes of Hazzard capabilities, and you don't. Eat your hearts out.

Calling H&R with valid complaints and simple, to the point questions will get to the bottom of this.
We have all the evidence we need to make a case with them. Someone has to call.

I will give that setup a try when I get them. In the meantime, I will check with H&R on the chance that I got the wrong springs and go from there. I will continue to drive it with the H&R's in it. The ride isn't really that bad until you drive on some roads with frost heaves on it. I will probably end up selling the H&R's, either to somebody here or on eBay..
