My kickdown switch doesn't seem to be working. Car doesn't downshift with full throttle in Tiptronic mode, and when in "D", it seems to downshift one gear too few.... Any easy places to look?

technically there is a switch, however it is integrated into the cable on most cars. later models with electronic throttle use the pedal stop for the switch.
you can also check the status using measuring block #8 of the tcm module.

You need to kick the gear down manually when in Tip. For the standard "D" setting issues, you can reset the response (somewhat) via VAG-COM--seach the forum archives.
There was an article in a recent auto magazine I was reading about several new cars with throttle-by-wire having this same annoying lag issue when throttle is pressed, and it has been reasoned by various manufacturers that it helps with gas consumption. This could be enough of a reason why one may want to get a Lotus Elise/Exige :-)

if your pedal is down all the way. I know the code is not correct for S8s, but there has to be an equivalent code for S8s.
