At least all the european A8 / S8 I have been driving shift down in Tip, when you step on the gas hard.
Even the Diesels do - but you don't want to follow in a white car....

The car has to adapt to your driving style. My A8 drops 1 gear at VERY little throttle, and drops 2 gears well before the firewall stop. It's used to me ![Wink](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Also, yes .. there is North American shift program Vs "Rest of the World" shift program. NA shift program is for fuel efficiency.

...both down one and two gears.
I've been leaving it in automode mostly as I've found it's a wayway effective way to drive the friggin axles off this car and it's smarter / better than the experience in tip. It feels like it does it when it hits that actuator, yes.
It sure is a dame fine ****omatic that much I'll give it, never thought being a shiftsnob die hard and coming from my 6spd UrS6 mit carbon / kevlar clutch I'd everever utter those thoughts, but I'll be damned.
Figured I'd miss rev matched downshift slapping and throwing clutch at upshifts but nope. The car f'n rocks.
