however no sooner did i hit the highway than the DAMN CEL flashed and stayed on...luckily i had my trusty OBD2 reader handy and ran the codes while driving...and WHAT DO YOU KNOW....P0300, 0307, 0308....FREAKIN MISFIRES on cylinder 7 & 8. I am at my wits end. i have new NGK plugs, i have moved the Coilpaks around, replaced the dryrotted rubber plug connectors, fixed the crank position sensor, fixed the leaky seal on cyl 8 injector, listened to all the injectors (the screwdriver to the ear test...all clicked fine). i am BAFFELED. PLEASE HELP ME. i am all but ready to sell the damn thing....

The service manual list of things to check in the case of misfires is: fuel level, spark plugs, injectors, injector volume, ignition coils, ignition power output stages, mechanical stuff. There are specific instructions including electrical measurements associated with some of these.
Sounds like you've already ruled out some of these. Could the plugs be defective? Swapping ignition power output stages won't likely reveal much if they are both defective, because cylinders 7 and 8 both use the fourth channel of their respective output stages. If the misfire is mainly at idle, I'd wonder about a vacuum leak, though that should usually turn up with fuel trim (add) codes. If it's mainly at heavy throttle, I'd wonder about clogged injectors.
Nothing about the problem is likely to be Audi specific. In other words, an inquisitive mechanic not specializing in our lovely Deutschebuicks ought to be able to figure it out, though they'd benefit from having the service manual at hand.
