Default BMW Fan Site

What is intersting is if you read the the posts by the BMW fans on the post (I am a former 740i sreies owner). They are enthralled with the design and think it absolutely brilliant. I suppose the objectivity is simply not there.

Default Compare the new 5 series rear to new A8- 5 series is VERY "busy".

Here's a visual comparison of the rear ends of the new 5 series to the new A8. Notice all of the intersecting lines as well as the four parallel horzontal creases. Combined, it makes for a very busy appearance. Also note the size of the gaps between body panels (arrows) especially the long horizontal one that runs from the wheel well to the tail light- is this supposed to be German fit and finish? For comparison, look at the almost invisible gap in the vertical joint between the rear fender and rear bumper on the A8. The 5 series almost looks like an American racer-boy design (Pontiac?).

Default Well ... we're probably not totally objective either, but ...

I definitely prefer the old 5 series.

Default That's one reason I don't like the A6 is how the bumpers butt to the body panels

The A6 has those bumper covers that don't go with the body panels, plus they never seem to be the same color as the body panels, probably because they are plastic, and the other panels are metal.

Here's a good paint job on the rear:

Here's a better picture of a different car showing how they protrude forward:

And here's a bad fit on the front bumper:
