Not sure of the spelling, but I just shelled out nearly 1,000 for a dealer bumper, as teh yards have zip.
I want to create a strong plastic cover that goes below the OEM lip, and snaps in- the belly pan is a joke, and car gets hung up on slightest barrier = big money repair. I want to make a cover that will no longer allow the belly pan to get pushed up (as the design is flimsy and makes no sense. The snap screws pop out instantly, as the belly pan slides into the bumper cover and does not stay below the lip as the flaw has shown many of us D2 owners)
The approximate size I need, clear of the wheels, is 50" by 10". Where can we go to fabricate this piece?

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h24/blusilvr/IMG_0478.jpg</a

Yeah, my wife just ripped the bumber off my s8 today
It's hanging on one side and connected on the other. I was going to remove it today, but have been thinking of having the bumper re-painted anyway so off to the auto body place next week.

better solution = make it zero tolerance practice to shallow park 8-)
I learned that 2x with the UrS6 (fortunately just came unclipped on sides). But it was VERY evident that the D2 would hang up on anything / everything, front AND rear - so I've Pavlovian'd myself accordingly, rigidly.
AND I make point to stress that to any who borrow my car (inlaws, wife, etc.).
Good luck.

I wish it were so simple...
I reverse park 99% of the time myself- I just can't expect it of the other drivers
Basically, park too far out and your *** end gets hit by some Chevy Suburban soccer mom on the cell
You would think that this would be the least likely precaution an owner has to take on a flagship 75k plus car. About as pathetic as the tranny on the pre 2001 cars apparently//...

I've had one on my to-do list for awhile. It requires hand layup...details below.
My idea is a Carbon-kevlar chin spoiler that uses dzus fasteners and extends past the lip. I have my old bumper lower half to use as a plug to make my mold. I just havent had the time to actually do it yet. You could also make it out of fiberglass.

My wife just ripped the bumper off my '00 A8 on Saturday
Same exact thing...hanging on the passenger's side only. I let her off easy since I've yet to swap back out the idiotically low B&G springs with the Eibachs. Airbags are starting to sound like a good idea at this point. On the facelift cars, the bumper has a "sacraficial" spoiler below it, and then the undertray. Is this the same for the earlier cars?
Hey, How about curb feelers? And maybe a cubby for my dentures sonny.
I've got to crawl under there and bleed on the car anyway, surely there has got to be a way to make the existing fascia more snag proof involving sheetmetal reinforcement, pop rivets and some beefier bracketry. What's been tried?

D'OH! It's *always* "the wife" 8-)
Bummer man bummer.
Thanks for the lol tho - "bleed on the car" - HA!
Funny, I've been meaning to zip tie in my fog light grilles knowing their propensity to get sucked into some bizarre parellel universe vortex or something - and noted today they've already been screwed in. Nice. My car came sans belly pan - now I see why. Crazy, near all these things experience "some" hang up in front / rear at some point.
Shallow park folks - soccer mom's passing by be damned 8-).
Good luck, sorry to hear.

Whats the right fix?
I always shallow park, but I've also had it foul in the snow. I figure the lip is there for an aerodynamic reason or whatnot, so why not reinforce the existing rather than redesign. Prior to removing the belly pan for good, I had the usual cracks, tears etc.. and backed it up with oversized patches from a sheet of sheetmetal ducting and some self tapping screws, then made it official later with some pop rivets. I worked well. Could the lower bumper cowling be similarly reinforced? Then you've got to do something about the mounts that ...ahem.. "secure" it.
Do you shoot for something that is so damn rigid that it beaches itself on the way in, never getting past the lip on the way in, or something that will deform upward, stay that way until you straighten it out later and not take the whole bumper with it when you back out after running aground. I'm thinking reinforce the crap out of the area just in front of the lip with better mounts and some sheet aluminum and a zillion rivets so when backing out after running aground, you only risk cracking or snapping off just a little bite of the lip.
Are there schools of thought or maybe just a Learning Annex night class on these different ideas...or others?
