Let's seperate the new A8 from the old

Those new to Audi with the D3 could read a D2 forum to get a sense of history. Their desires, as I understand them, can be served by two forums.
D2 users who want to keep up with the new model could read a D3 forum. Their desires, as I understand them, can be served by two forums.
But those who want to spend minimal time keeping up with only one model's discussions are served best by splitting the forum into two. So please split them, and read both if you like both.

That's precicely where I'm comming from!
1 - entirely different car!
2 - different folks putting down 75 large for new versus 25k for old
3 - those of us who are maintaining our own cars typically are "Audi gear heads" looking to do our own work, or most of it. I'd suspect those with new A8s don't have work to do yet, and would be paying someone else to do it.
Although I can thoroughly appreciate sharing the excitment of a new car purchase like the A8, I just have no interest in surfing through the details, when all I want is the good tech stuff on a used 2000 model.

Maybe it does make sense to have two different forums. I think there are two different groups who post to this forum; but the difference isn't between 04 and earlier model owners. I've worked in the automotive field for over thirty years, and I've owned Audi's for over 15 years, but I wouldn't characterize myself as a "gear-head". I stopped changing my own oil about 15 years ago, and it's been the late 70s since I last rebuilt an engine. I have a technical interest in some of the discussions about mods, and a burning need to correct mis-statements in others, but I'm more interested in user experiences and problems, and the creative solutions other Audi owners have found. Perhaps two forums - one called "A8 Tech Talk" or something similar, and a second called "A8 General", would be a better split.

They might learn a few ideas from us and we might learn about some new options that can easily be retro fit into our cars. The whole purpopse is the idea exchange..

because I put such a badge on it after debadging the car. The name does not make we want to read or write about it.
The D3 is a fine car, notably improved over the old model in some ways (e.g. seats, road noise, ride). But I sure miss the economy of browsing a D2-only forum, and wish one still existed.
