Default Letting the ‘98 A8 Quattro go

I am afraid that it is destined for the scrap yard unless someone here wants it.

The transmission has what I presume is a common failure (drive is a single higher gear, reverse works normally…). The repair would cost far more than the car is worth (and I don’t have the time or space to fix it myself), and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District will pay $1200 to “retire” the car to a junk yard.

I hope that someone here would want to repair this car. Other than the faulty transmission, the car looks good and is otherwise in fairly good condition: no collision damage, AC and sound system work great, current registration with valid CA smog, interior is good, engine runs well, only a few thousand miles on tires and brakes. It does have some other annoyances that include oil leaks, non functioning ABS system, peeling clear coat, etc.

I will be very sorry if it goes to the scrap yard, but it has to go one way or another. Please PM me if interested.

The A8 has an appointment at the scrap yard tomorrow.

This will likely be my last post on this board as I will probably not own another Audi, but I wanted to express my appreciation for this board and to thank everyone here who provided information about this car that was so helpful in maintaining it.

Just saw this post. Any chance to harvest a few parts before the scrap yard? For example, a rear bumper and a few other parts?

Hello RET:

I'm so sorry about your car I wish I had seen your post sooner. I live in Fremont CA and I own a 1998 Audi A8 D2 that runs good for the most part. i was going onto the forum to get some help about replacing a front wheel bearing when I saw your post about your car. I think I have only seen one other car like mine and that was also in Fremont. Have you disposed of your car and did you by any chance taken to a auto junk yard somewhere in the Bay Area? Please try to get back to me when you get a chance. My email is us1012004@yahoo.com and my cell is 510-754-9262.

Thanks

Greg
