Default Life Expectancy of 97 A8?????

Any idea of the life expectancy of these cars if kept in good condition (i.e. engine, transmission etc)? I just bought a 97 with 155K miles, but in awesome conditon. Trans and engine seem good. Paid $9.5k. Good or Bad price?

Also, timing belt and water pump replace @ 89k. Wondering how long I should wait before replacing again? Thanks

Default Timing belts need to be replaced every 90K miles

The car will last as long as you want it to.

My 97 with 125K miles looks better than most A8's out there regardless of miles. Runs great also. Need a tranny though. But I live with it.

Default Agreed, however when I changed my timing belt @ 96k, it still looked brand new.

And I have yet to hear about an A8 with a visibly worn/broken timing belt before 90K.

Anyone?

Still, better safe than sorry I quess.....

Default Same here. Changed mine at 91k. No issues.

I now have 133k on my 98 and non-Audi people can't believe it. Like PaulW said. They'll last as long as you want them to. This is my 3rd Audi and each one has gone well beyond 100k without major issues. My 95 90S Quattro had 178k when I sold it, My 97 A6Q had 162k when replaced by my 98 A8 which should be with me well into the 200k and beyond range. Good luck and welcome.

Did mine at 101,000 and the belt was starting to crack and show wear.

I had mine replaced at 79k. So you're telling me I'm good until 169k? That's great. You're car looks great by the way Paul.

Thanks to all of you for your input. Trany seems fine at 155k. Hope it last until 200k and beyond. At $9.5k I thought this awesome car was worth the risk. Any idea how much a rebuilt/new/or use trany would cost? I've hear nightmare stories?

I'm thinking in the $3500 - $4000 range, for a rebuilt one, installed.

Mine was done @ 89k. Now I have 155k. I'm thinking 170k would be safe? Any thoughts?
