Not sure. However, I filled the tank and had only gone about 275 miles.

Default UPDATE: "You basically ran out of gas," says shop. (with analog gauge showing 1/4 full)

My local shop took an initial look at the car and said that with the sending units disconnected, it says (on diag tool?) 6 liters and with the sending units connected it says 12 liters. Calibration issue?

My big concern is that I filled the tank and only got ~275 miles out of it before it died. IF it is really out of fuel, where did the fuel go? I know there was a LITTLE bit (that smelled awful) on the garage floor the first night, but not much after that. Are there lines that could be hemorrhaging fuel ONLY while the car is running? The gas cap was 1/2 tight, but you wouldn't lose THAT much to vapor, would you? And without smell in the garage.

IF putting fuel back in the tank lets it run AND I can get it hooked up to (borrowed) VAG-COM, what measuring or diagnostic tools should I use?

In my case, the analog guage was reading zero.

UPDATE 2: Really WAS out of gas. Shop set "adaption number(?)" for analog gauge & it went to E.

Now the trick is figuring out how I got 12 MPG! Running in "3" won't do that, will it?

Default I get 12-14 regularly

Just drive the car one or two miles a bunch of times. It'll lower that milage right down.

Is that 12-14 over a short run ("live" digital readout) or is that across an entire tank?

Default Depends a lot on your driving mix.

As we've discussed, I do most of the driving in my S8 in "4", which is comparable to "3" in an A8. I haven't reset the "avg mpg" of my instrument cluster for the last three full tanks of gas. It's showing 17 mpg, but to get almost anywhere I have to jump on an Interstate (where I still usually use "4").
