Hey Everyone
Im looking at a A8 for 19k cdn. I have an older 5000 Turbo quattro, so I am familiar with the quirks of these cars.. Anyways I was wondering if anyone can share some tips as to re: what to check with these cars, what goes wrong with them, or If I should just stay from them all together ? How does the price seem ?
The car looks in good shape, from looking just around outside, I can see the control arms are newly replaced at the top of the strut. Do these have to be changed every 60k?
Thanks for any info,

Jonathan,
check audipages for complete buying guide.
Specific 2000 issue is the cam tensioner "rattle". It's not fatal (both of mine do it) but requires that the ECU be changed to really fix it. If it's affected, you'll hear a rattling sound just under the valve cover around 1,200 rpm's both up/down through that range.
Another issue is the slow/stopped transmission "clunk" which also seems common on the facelift cars. It'll be worse if the front CV has any play which over 60-70k it probably does a little. Basically, it'll feel/sound like a clunk in the drivetrain when coming to a stop.
I have almost eliminated it on mine by replacing the driveshaft and running an adaption sequence with vag-com every 300-400 miles. I need to post that here for everyone else (credit to MP4.2) for that one.
