Looks like this is the end..
Well after i got engaged i realized that my car time will be cut short. I cannot afford to constantly be fixing this car. I love it had a great run with it and met some great people.
Paul - thanks for all your effort to keep a database of all our problems and solutions
Gabor - Thanks for your inhuman record time of a tranny swap you breathed new life into my car. When the tranny was out there was no sign of oil! All of the sudden a few months later LEAKS EVERYWHERE from the engine..
Tony - it was a pleaseure meeting you and that exhuast sound you have is fantastic.
My car is leaking once again from 2 places in the engine. 1. The Head is definatly leaking now i have oil in my coolant and its not leaking from the oil cooler. 2. The front cam shaft seal is leaking again. In total it would cost me more than $5000 to get the car back to a 100% functionality. That included door locks, trunk latches, air bags, oil leaks, cooling fan replacement, power steering leak, ps rack, headlight washers, and a few other issues.
From my experience with My A6 and A8 and frineds experience with their Jettas and Passats i think this will be my last endeavor with Audi/VW. Its a shame people know me as MR AUDI... Audi this audi that, with the lack of support from my dealer and the fear of everyone around me to fix it i am left with no choice. a Wholesaler offered me $4500 for my car and its an offer as good as i am going to get. So i have the following parts that i need to find a home for..
1. ECS 2 piece floating rotors with 10k miles on them
2. K&N Cone filter and adapter to fit in the airbox
3. Prefacelift European S8 dash with double din opening and spot for old style a/c and switches.. a direct bolt on mod for prefacelift nav+ upgrades.. cost me over $450 on ebay.de
4. If i have my old armrests i will take out the 2000 arm rests and sell them
5. Rear deck bose speakers
6. and finally my beloved VAG-COM cable..

Sorry to hear about it ..
Think it over, and maybe there'll be a light at the end of the tunnel. You thought you were toast with the transmission, but were miraculously saved there. Could happen again.

Re: You should chronicle your experience in the Audi Quattro Quarterly
I read the posts every day. I am the least knowledgeable among anyone who has ever posted but I think it is a shame that Audi's premier flagship the A8 has so many problems. For the price, it should have Lexus quality.
I definitely would not have bought my A8L if I had read the posts.
Well, let us know what you purchase. There are a lot of great cars out there.
