Never had a sub in my car....but I don't really like how the bass sounds in the S8. As I mentioned, maybe because I listen to XM a lot and not CD's.
A guy on another forum stated he just added an Alpine MRP-M450 400 watt mono amp to his A4, turned the bass way down on his Bose Stereo and tapped the high level bose input to the rear speaker input into the amp for the bass.
So I just got one on ebay for $102 shipped, it's less than a year old. Now I need to find an 8" sub and enclosure that is cheap.
I think it will be a nice mod!

Pablito,
My advice is as follows:
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/84266/111.jpg">
10" inch sub, well enclosed, instead of 8". Use a box instead of a hard-mount, for reasons which will become apparent.
It is a universally understood notion that 10 beats 8. If you use it right, that is. $250 fee for the explanatory lecture for the young fellows.
Amperage: drop signal off rear speaker. 250W is plenty but since you're a big shot, we'll accept your 400. Mine will still sound better, since I'm a scientific tuner of electronica. But we'll all bow to your magnificent 400, if it will make you feel better. You'll have to spend some time tuning from front to back. Once you get it right, it's awesome. People are flabbergasted by the sound of my system. (I just felt the need to use the word "flabbergasted", which is sadly going out of style.)
<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/84266/222.jpg">
Finally, and forgive the bad iPhoto-in-the-dark photo, I put quick-disconnects in between the amp and the sub. Never know when you're going to need a three body trunk.

I have noticed the Powers-that-Be have erased all my photos of fat chicks and skinny. I leave it to the rest of you to hold them to account for this.

I have a dual 10" enclosure with Kicker Comp subs and a Swiss Audio 6 channel 1200w amp.
I just dropped the lines from the stock subs on the rear deck and got a line converter from circuit city for like $30. This car was the easiest sub install I have ever done since the battery is in the trunk.

For rear passengers, the stock setup is a bit unbalanced, with the bass speakers inches from your ears. Good for front passengers though. Maybe your solution will help, moving bass lower in trunk.

8 inch is not going to give you the thump and low tones you might be looking for. Consider having a 10' sub mounted to a 3/4 birch plywood sheet cut neatly to fit the entire trunk side of the seat. Have the sub located right behind the arm rest firing directly into the passenger compartment with no box. The trunk is the box , and the plywood is the baffle. Lower the arm rest and you'll have a clean and soundsational install. This design is called Free Air and will use the trunk as a box. Put small amount of dynamat on any panel that is loose and it will sound great with only small loss of trunk space. You have to get a sub with high "Q" or one that is suitable for use with "free air" design. Most are these days. Kicker makes a square sub that would look real cool.
Also consider the type of music matters, for example if you like rock two 8 inch subs stacked will give cleaner mid base and punch consistent with rock music transients. If you like the long rhythms of reggae and hip hop a single 12' or 15' sub would be best. If your musical tastes are varied a single 10' or the right 12' will suffice.
