Would it be worth it to lose the spare tire/wheel in my trunk and go to a lighter weight battery (the stock battery is huge!!)? Id put a little DC air compressor in there and some tire sealant...They both weigh ~105lbs together...Any worries about disrupting the balance by removing 100+lbs that hangs off the back..?...Anyone got any other ideas?

...in FRONT of the front axle.
Think of these cars as Bizzarro 911s.
It'd be like me shedding weight off the nose of my 930 with hopes of keeping the back from coming round 8-)!
Boiling it down: the weight back there helps coerce the rear to much neededly come around for you - my $0.0002.
Other thoughts? The carpet subflooring is pretty heavy, but I like it for it's cushyness. Beyond that? Wheels are a good start, my BBSs are 4lbs lighter per, which seems to have gained me a bonus 30-50 miles per tank. Lighter rotors. Both will give you handling benny's too due to less unsprung flying around.
Beyond that? Exhaust is heavy as heck, swap in something lighter.
Beyond THAT??? Dunno... light these things never will be. However, that said - it's still within 100lbs of my former UrS6... so I'm not complaining.
But looking @ my ~ 2,000lb TR3 it's funny - I picture stacking two TR3s together then trying to drive both around... equal to Alumibitch 8-).
Good luck / report back.

To be able to accelerate faster? You could have the same effect by running your gas tank 1/2 full or less all the time.
1 gallon of gasoline equals 5.8 to 6.5 lbs.
So for 10 gallons in the tank, you could loose 58-65 lbs.
It's a S8 that is such as nice car.....loosing the spare tire doesn't make much sense to me. But that's just me.

If I were to track the car, yes I would take out back seat, spare tire, rear headrests, passenger headrest, tools, etc. but for everyday driving my car is light enough. Of course like pkrasusky says rims and exhaust are not a bad idea, you're actually enhancing the car not deleting anything that you might need. My 2 cts.
