LT: What is this metal plate that fell out of my intake manifold?
Hello fellows. I was changing my intake gasket and this little plate fell out of it. What is this and what is the purpose of it? Here's the link to image: https://pasteboard.co/7T98VpMqPpls.jpg

What car/engine? Looks a lot like at throttle body plate but that would depend on what year your a8/s8 is? Would only be for the earlier A8's with a dual butterfly TB. And then I'd be very concerned where the screws went. Picture for reference https://www.ebay.com/itm/154624743174

That engine is not common on this forum, you might ask on a board where more people have the 2.8L like an A4/A6 board. However I love a mystery. Looking at this pic on ebay:

I see something like an intake flap actuator on what would be the LR of the engine (upper right in the pic). If the engine has intake flaps to broaden the torque range it might be one of those flaps.
In any case there are marks on your mystery part that suggest there were fasteners in it, so maybe a compression/leakdown check is in order to see if there is damage from those ramblin' through.
Please let us know what you find out. Thanks,
-Joel.
