okay, here's the the car:
1999 A8L. Silver on black. Seems to have pretty much every option including heated seats and that funky rear sunshade.
car has 91k miles, timing belt done at 81k.
questions:
what are some issues with these cars/motors?
how expensive is maintenace?
is there even a market for these cars out there?
guy is asking $12,500....what's a good amount to offer?
TIA ya'll.

Everything will be answered. 12.5K is probably a little on the high side.

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now and searching the archives of both this site and audipages, but nowhere have I found a simple discussion of the differences b/t 99 and 00 cars with photographs to illustrate the differences. Does that exist anywhere?
I'm going to test drive a '99 with 60,000 miles and 6 piston brembos on Saturday (see pic), and I'd really like to understand what I'm missing out on vs an 00 and later.

I have a "late" build 99. The skinny is that it is commonly believed that the late build 99 has an updated torque converter and does not have the problems associated with some of the 97-98 model year trannys so well documented on this board.
How to tell the "late" 99 build? One way is the VIN number - highter the better but I don't know the cut off point. (the last 4 digits of my VIN are 3432) An easier way is to look at the outside passenger door mirror. If it is the same size as the driver's door mirror then the car is most likely a "late" build 99.
$12,500 seems like a fair starting point if the car is very clean. Having the timing belt job done already is worth about $1600 around here.
Good luck!

My car has high miles but is in excellent shape with new timing belt, control arms, differential seals, trans fluid flush, coolant hoses, vacuum hoses, and many other services performed. It is Silver with Black interior, 18" RS6 style wheels, painted rocker panels and lower bumpers to match car, warm weather package, etc. The car runs great and doesn't have any transmission issues. It's a great car, but I have 6 vehicles now and want to reduce my fleet a bit.

Also, did the overall width change? It's the mm number stays the same between '99 and '00 but the inches one says it's five inches wider. Interior volume stayed the same so I'm guessing that it's a typo, but it's the same for the '01.

It's the best driving luxury sedan I've ever owned, and I've owned a bunch. Plus it looks so classy and isn't that common, so you don't run into another one very often. I'm hooked on these cars and will get another one some day. Can't have a better testiment than that.
